129 Bedroom Hotel to be built at Moneenageisha Cross
Plans for a 129-bedroom hotel at Moneenageisha Cross – to replace part of an already approved office development – have been submitted to the City Council. Radical Properties (headed by city businessman Gerry Barrett) have applied to city planners for permission to develop the 129 bedroom hotel including business and meeting rooms, bar and lounge and a restaurant on part of the 2.978 hectare site at Wellpark, formerly Corbett’s Yard.
The proposal will replace part of an already approved retail and office development. Under the new plan, 6,156 square metres of office space and 400 sq.m. of retail space will be omitted from the approved application to make way for the Wellpark Hotel.
Planners are likely to reach a decision on the application at the beginning of next month. Meanwhile, a decision by the City Council last month to refuse permission for a leisure complex on the same site will stand after an appeal by the developer top An Bord Pleanala was declared invalid.
Mr Barrett was refused permission for a 65,000 square foot development, which would have included a 7-screen cinema, swimming pool, gym and sports centre, because of a lack of carparking and lack of compatibility with residential zoning. That decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanala last week, although the board ruled this week that the appeal was invalid, as it was not lodged within 28 days of the City Council decision.
