Edward Holdings launches Monogram Hotels
Irish-based property company Edward Holdings has launched a new subsidiary hotel brand, Monogram Hotels.
The brand’s flagship hotel, the G, is located in Galway and will be that City’s newest five star hotel and spa. The G will have 96 deluxe rooms and is due to open in early Summer 2005. The General Manager of the G’ hotel is Michéal Cunningham, a native of Galway, who brings a wealth of experience from managing hotels previously in Galway and nationally.
A second Monogram Hotel is nearing completion at Edward Holdings prestigious Scotch Hall development in Drogheda. An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will officiate at the ‘topping out’ of the 104 bed hotel, which has yet to be named, when he tours the €150 million Scotch Hall development today (3rd September).
The Scotch Hall hotel, with conference and banqueting suites, lounge areas, bar and restaurant all overlooking the River Boyne, is being built to a four-star specification and will opened when construction has completed on the Scotch Hall site in November 2005.
Mary McKeon is the Chief Operating Officer of Monogram Hotels and brings over 20 years’ experience in the hotel and hospitality business, in Ireland and internationally. She is also a board member of Failte Ireland. Speaking at the ‘topping out’ in Drogheda, she said; “Our aim at Monogram Hotels will be to provide guests with a truly memorable hotel experience – coupling the very best design and quality interiors with warn, professional yet personal service.
“We are very excited about the hotel in Drogheda, and confident that our investment of €20 million will make a significant contribution to developing visitor numbers to boost the economy of the town and the historic County of Louth.”
As well as containing many buildings of national historic interest, Drogheda is an ideal location from which to explore the wider area, including two of the most famous and most visited tourist attractions in Ireland – the Neolithic monuments of Newgrange and Knowth. These New Stone Age Passage Graves are regarded as among the most impressive prehistoric monuments in Europe and currently attract approximately 200,000 people per year.

Douglas Wallace, Architects, Designers and Project Managers have designed both ‘the G’ in Galway, and the Monogram hotel at Scotch Hall.
